As we continue to grow our card acquiring and payment capabilities, we are looking for a Scheme Compliance Specialist to help us strengthen our Visa and Mastercard compliance framework and ensure that scheme requirements are embedded into our day-to-day operations.
Scheme Compliance Specialist
Your role at xpate:
Scheme Inquiry Management
You will own the end-to-end management of Visa and Mastercard compliance inquiries and monitoring program cases, with a particular focus on BRAM, VIRP, TLD, and similar scheme initiatives.
You will lead the investigation, and preparation of formal responses to Visa and Mastercard inquiries, including BRAM, VIRP, and TLD cases.
You will ensure alignment with applicable scheme requirements and coordinate reviews, escalations, and approvals with senior management prior to submission
Tracking & Reporting
You will maintain a central repository of scheme inquiries, responses, deadlines, and supporting documentation.
You will prepare executive summaries, monitor submission timelines, generate periodic compliance statistics and reports, and maintain a register of Visa and Mastercard news and updates.
Policy & Documentation Ownership
You will own and maintain internal documentation related to scheme compliance, ensuring that policies, procedures, registers, and guidance materials remain current, clear, and comprehensive.
You will also support the continuous improvement of scheme compliance frameworks, internal controls, and operating processes, including maintaining the Cards team page in Notion.
Regulatory & Scheme Monitoring
You will monitor updates to Visa and Mastercard rules, assess their potential impact on xpate, and translate relevant changes into actionable policy, process, or control updates for internal teams.
Risk Assessment
You will conduct assessments to determine the company’s alignment with applicable scheme rules and proactively escalate potential risks, gaps, or non-compliance areas for further analysis and mitigation.
Operational Scheme Compliance Tasks
You will support recurring scheme-related operational activities, including:
Daily settlement notifications
Monthly invoice reporting
Quarterly reporting
AMMF monthly submissions
SDP/AIS biannual reporting
Cross-Functional Collaboration
You will work closely with Risk, Compliance, Operations, Product, Engineering, and other teams to ensure scheme requirements are properly reflected in onboarding, transaction monitoring, reporting, and internal processes.
You will also provide guidance and training to relevant teams on scheme-related compliance obligations when needed.

Hands-on experience managing Visa and Mastercard compliance programs, including BRAM, VIRP, TLD, or similar scheme monitoring and remediation programs.
Strong understanding of Visa and Mastercard rules, scheme inquiry processes, reporting obligations, and compliance requirements.
Experience preparing, coordinating, and submitting formal responses to scheme inquiries, investigations, and compliance cases.
Ability to assess scheme-related risks, identify compliance gaps, and drive remediation actions across multiple stakeholders.
Experience in payments, fintech, card acquiring, merchant risk, operations, compliance, or regulatory roles.
Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply formal scheme rules, policies, and regulatory-style documentation.
Excellent coordination skills and ability to collect input from multiple stakeholders while managing strict deadlines.
Strong writing skills, with the ability to prepare clear formal responses, executive summaries, reports, and internal documentation.
High attention to detail and ability to maintain registers, repositories, trackers, and supporting documentation accurately.
Confidence working with senior stakeholders and coordinating review and approval processes.
Structured mindset with strong organizational and documentation management skills.
Good English communication skills, both written and verbal.
